Guy Fawkes is coming late to school.

HISTORY

On the 5th* November 1605, a man named Guy Fawkes tried to blow up "The Houses of Parliament", where the king and his leaders were about to meet. He was hoping to kill King James I and all the king’s leaders. Guy Fawkes and his friends felt that the government was treating Roman Catholics unfairly; so, they placed barrels of gunpowder in one of the cellars beneath the building.  Guy Fawkes was to light the fuse that would set off the explosion. But the plot was discovered before he had a chance to do this. The king was saved, and Guy Fawkes was hanged.

The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire.

Em 5* de novembro de 1605, um homem chamado Guy Fawkes tentou fazer explodir  “The Houses of Parliament”, onde  o rei se ia reunir com os seus conselheiros. Esperava matar o rei Jaime I e os seus conselheiros. Guy Fawkes e os seus amigos achavam que o governo estava a tratar os católicos de uma forma injusta; por isso, colocaram barris de pólvora numa das caves do edifício. Guy Fawkes devia acender o rastilho que provocaria a explosão. Mas a conspiração foi descoberta antes de ele ter oportunidade de o fazer. O rei salvou-se  e Guy Fawkes foi enforcado.

O acontecimento é comemorado todos os anos com lançamento de fogo de artifício e e com a queima de efigies de Guy Fawkes em fogueiras.
